Building
Better Safety Committees
WHEN:
Tuesday, June 5, 2007, 2:00 pm Eastern -- 60 minutes
SNAPSHOT:
Having
an ineffective safety committee is more dangerous than having
no committee at all. Why? Because committees that consistently
fail to deliver results send the message that safety really doesn’t
matter. Here’s some help to get you started in the right
direction … whether you’re building from scratch or
trying to reinvigorate an existing team. In this 60-minute audio
conference program, Chip Darius, President of Safety Priority
Consultants, will share with you an action plan he’s developed
over the last 25 years to make safety committees a truly wise
investment of time and energy.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Too
often, safety committees don’t live up to expectations.
The first few meetings are exciting and the group comes up with
a list of great ideas. But enthusiasm wanes when proposed initiatives
stall or get shot down. Discouraged, the group loses its spark
and meetings degenerate into little more than “donut-eating
gripe sessions.”
That’s tragic because having an ineffective safety committee
is more dangerous than having no committee at all. Why? Because
committees that consistently fail to deliver results send the
message that safety really doesn’t matter.
The question is how do you build a safety committee that truly
drives a culture of safety? What “best practices”
are world-class organizations using to form and maintain committees
that keep top management and front line workers on the same page,
help pinpoint and correct workplace hazards and ultimately reduce
injuries and deaths?
Here’s some help to get you started in the right direction
… whether you’re building from scratch or trying to
reinvigorate an existing team. In this 60-minute audio conference
program, Chip Darius, President of Safety Priority Consultants,
will share with you an action plan he’s developed over the
last 25 years to make safety committees a truly wise investment
of time and energy. No ivory-tower theory, just actionable ideas
you can put to use right away.
The program will
cover:
- The #1 reason safety committees fail – and how to avoid
that common trap
- Techniques to get active participation from the front line
- A step-by-step approach to making a solid “business
case” for committee initiatives
- Guidance on who should be on the committee and how long they
should serve
- What works – and what doesn’t – when it
comes to leading and managing the committee
- How to decide how much influence the committee should have
- Why it’s essential that you set specific meeting performance
expectations
- Proven ideas to help align the committee with company culture
- Why it’s so critical to avoid the "safety cop"
syndrome
- Ways to overcome typical management push-back on committee
proposals
- A system for tracking corrective action items.
Public or private, general industry or construction, this program
is a must. Handouts, forms and checklists will make this seminar
immediately useful in your company or agency.
