COURSE DESCRIPTION: You hear it from your legal counsel all the time: document, document, document. But, managers find it either too painful or frustrating to take the time to document or wind up creating documentation that is inadequate. Not surprisingly, poor documentation can create as much liability as having no documentation at all.
So while you are constantly reminded to document, in reality, most HR professionals and managers are never taught how to effectively transcribe their verbal coaching, counseling or disciplinary conversations into solid, bulletproof documentation.
This conference will give participants an in-depth overview of the dos and don’ts of documentation and lay out seven steps to creating “bulletproof” documentation. Participants will:
- Learn how to create documentation that is fair and consistent, and that will withstand the scrutiny of a judge, jury or other fact-finder
- Learn how to create proper documentation for all workplace situations.
Topics include:
- Words and phrases to avoid when documenting
- How to document expectations, problematic conduct and consequences
- How to document an employee’s explanation
- Documentation disasters that create liability
- How to get employees involved in documenting their own performance.
